FoamTEC

Corona treatment of foam and board

FoamTEC product description

PP board is made of blended PP co-polymer and has one major disadvantage – low surface energy, resulting in poor surface adhesion for water-based adhesives and inks.

Corona treatment systems by Tantec significantly increase surface energy and improve adhesion.

Corona Treatment of Foam and Board. To optimize treatment and minimize waste it is important that the entire board surface is treated. To achieve this result, it is necessary to have the corona discharge around the board’s edge.

Tantec solves this problem by increasing the thickness of the dielectricum layer, increasing the roller’s longevity and allowing corona treatment to the board’s edge.

Increasing the insulation thickness will even out the discharge and ensure uniform treatment of boards up to 50 mm in thickness.

The FoamTEC is available for single and dual sided treatment. Adjustable electrode which ensures max. flexibility.

Electrode height adjustment with digital read-out. When treating corrugated board, it is important to limit the treatment inside the cavities to avoid loss of power and creation of ozone.

The Foam TEC with thick insulation of counter electrodes limits treatment inside the cavities.

RotoTEX-X technical specifications

FEATURES:
Easy to install and use The system requires compressed air and the electrical connection.
Single or dual sided Both single and dual sided treatment systems available.
Easy adjustment of treatment width The stainless steel wire electrodes are easily adjusted in treatment width. This requires no change to the electrical power system.
Watt density control In combination with the HV-X series power generator, the system will adjust the generator output power according to the line speed.
Parallel opening A parallel sliding device with pneumatic cylinders enables easy access to the treating area for cleaning and maintenance.
Process control In combination with the HV-X series power generator and PLC units the system can be monitored and adjusted very easily.
Cost efficient treatment process Only electrical power is needed to achieve the effective treatment of foam and board, typically systems run from 1-4 kW depending on width and speed.
Safe and clean The system is equipped with safety switches and interlocks to ensure safe use. The ozone filter system eliminates the ozone generated during the process.

FAQ

What is FoamTEC used for?

FoamTEC is a corona treatment system for foam and board materials.

Why is surface treatment needed on foam and board?

Materials such as PP and PE often have low surface energy, which can make it difficult for inks, adhesives or coatings to bond properly.

How does FoamTEC improve adhesion?

FoamTEC increases the surface energy of the material, creating better conditions for reliable adhesion of inks, coatings and adhesives.

Can FoamTEC treat the full board surface?

Yes. FoamTEC is designed to provide uniform treatment across the board surface, including close to the board edges.

Can FoamTEC treat both sides of the material?

Yes. FoamTEC is available for both single-sided and dual-sided treatment, depending on the production setup.

Which materials can FoamTEC treat?

FoamTEC can treat non-conductive materials such as PP, PE, PVC, nylon, PC and similar foam or board materials.

How thick materials can FoamTEC treat?

FoamTEC can treat boards up to 50 mm in thickness, depending on the system configuration and application.

When should you consider FoamTEC?

You should consider FoamTEC when adhesion, printing, coating, bonding or surface preparation is critical to product quality. It is especially relevant when untreated surfaces create unstable results.

Is FoamTEC an environmentally friendly solution?

Yes. FoamTEC uses an electrical corona process and can reduce the need for chemical primers or additional pre-treatment where the application allows it.

Can FoamTEC be delivered as a standard or customized solution?

FoamTEC is typically customized to match your exact production setup, including material type, treatment width, line speed and process requirements.
